National Grammar Day

(The following is a rough transcription of the below video)

All righty. Then how are you doing? This is Simon Scholes here, founder and creative director of perception studios at the award-winning visual marketing agency based in the UK. That’s my email going off. Uh, we, our brands and businesses create content that really helps them stand out on their social media via video, animation, aerial work, sometimes photography, all that kind of stuff. However, as always, I want you to be able to do stuff yourself free and on today of all days. It’s well worth chatting about this one. It’s national grandma day. Oh, it’s national grammar day. So as you know, I’m not a big fan of creating perfect content. However, grammar is quite an important one and now I am not some sort of grammar doctor goes out and picks up on everybody’s grammar on their content when they put it out. However, grammar is important. It’s fine and dandy to write your content as if the way you speak. In fact, it’s exactly how I do it. I write my content, how I speak. However, my grammar can’t be wrong.

[inaudible]

because your grandma’s copyright. There’s too many people out there who read things as they should be read. So for example, there is the main, I’m sure you’ve all seen at some point or another. Okay. And your grandma rye is the difference between knowing your shit and knowing your shit, so

yeah, exactly. You don’t want to get it wrong because if somebody reads it in a particular way they can read it and go, wow, this person has not got a clue. So I’m going to tell you now down something like grammatically, it’s a great app, it’s free and you can pay for, if you want to put it will just pick you up on those little bits and pieces where you potentially getting something wrong in your grammar or potentially even in spelling as well. Although spelling isn’t such so much of an issue, it’s more the grammar side of things. That is a bit of an issue for most people and a, yeah, it’s well worth getting it right and for the fact that you can download a free app, a free app that can help you get it right. Why wouldn’t you? Exactly. Now, this is a really short video and a really short piece of content, but

I’m sure there’s some value there for you. There’s no, there’s nothing else to say other than get it right and we don’t always all get it right. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t get it right. If somebody picks you up on a grammatical error, change it. Don’t delete the post, just edit it. Just make it right. And then go back to the comment and just say, thanks ever so much. I missed that one. I’ve changed it. So it’s right now. People will forgive mistakes, but don’t put them in there just because you’re lazy and can’t be bothered to download an app that will probably pick you up on it anyway. Exactly. Great stuff. Right until tomorrow. Have a good, enjoying national grammar day, and I’m about to go and bring my grandma and uh, yeah, explain what I was talking about. Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye.

Jif Lemon Day

(The following is a rough draft of the below video)

Now. Then how the devil are you. Well, excellent too. Thank you very much for asking or welcome to another video ad. Today is all about Shrove Tuesday because obviously it’s pancake day making pancakes. We all know why we do it. We’re claiming the fridge of all the crap so that we can do well for lent unless of course you’re like me and you’re giving nothing up for the next 40 days cause I’m perfect. Anyway, moving on. I wanted to talk to you about a piece of content that really ties well into Shrove Tuesday and pancake day and this is the kind of stuff you need to be thinking about potentially doing with your brand and your business as well. Who remembers here? If you’re of a certain age, we’ll do the TV adverts for our little plastic lemon friends, CIF lemons. Do you remember the advert? In fact, a lot of people still call pancake day this because of this particular Advair Jif lemon day. Have a check out of this

[inaudible].

Don’t forget the pancakes on Jiff lemon Danny, so they have it.

There was an advert for a little, a little orange lemon, no, a little yellow lemon with lemon juice in there that caused people to call pancake day Jif lemon day. And so I want you to think about content for your brand in the same way as they were thinking about pancake day for Jif lemons. How can you tie your content into voice happening on a specific day in the year, what events are happening throughout the year? This is why I do all these daily videos, this daily content that goes on podcasts and on memes and non video because it’s all connected to daily events that people are searching for on a regular basis. So when they’re searching for it, there’s a chance they might come across your content as well and get some real value from it. So I want you to start thinking about what daily events are happening.

I’ve got to put some links to uh, calendars that I use. I’ll put them down in the section below so you can go check those out. But look for events that are tying your business into different things. Few years ago, I was working with somebody who was a leadership coach. I mean went through their entire year’s marketing. And then we got to the very end and they asked, when should I start? And the honest answer was the next day if possible because the next day was may the fourth star Wars day, if you know what I’m talking about. So star Wars day on may the fourth and they were a bit confused. And I said, well, I want you to write a blog about how the architect of the death star missed the weakness of the death star because daft ADA was a crappy boss. And that’s how you need to start thinking about your content.

How can you tie different things back into your business so that it actually really works for you? So could you have done something with national Tati a day or national dog biscuit day or like two day Schwab Tuesday or like tomorrow’s national day. So take a look at the calendar, see what you can tie your content back into. And if you’re not willing to do like daily content like I’m currently doing, well, why don’t I do weekly content? That is the ideal way to start. You start off with one piece of content and you can make that into lots of different things like I mentioned on national tortilla day, and the most important thing is, is you’re making content on one subject matter. So you’re not Scattergood in your approach with your marketing. So try and enjoy your pancake day, your Jeff lemon day, and as you do, just remember, you go look at some calendars, you’re going to get some content ideas together, and you can put a plan together so that you know what you’re talking about week on week, month on month, year on year. Start making that content and start making it work harder for you. But most importantly, tie back into events that are happening because that will really make that content a little bit more easier for you to make and also easier for people to find if they’re searching for it until tomorrow. Thanks for watching. See you then. Bye.

National Tortilla Chip Day

(The following is a rough transcript of the video below)

Now. Then how the devil are you? Well, excellent. Me too. Thank you very much for asking. Today is national even easy for me to say tortilla chip day a day for eating tortilla chips So let’s have a look at how that might even potentially tie into social media. I have no idea right now

the social media podcast with Simon Scholes tips, hints and great content ideas.

Then this is going to be a really, really, really, really distant cousin to tortilla chip day. But anyway, hopefully you’re well I’m Simon Scholes, founder and creative director of perception studios, the award-winning visual marketing agency based in the UK. How brands and businesses make content that helps them stand out on their social media. And as always, I’m here to help you with your social media, trying to give you ideas of things that you can do for free yourself and today being national tortilla chip day. And I thought, well the obvious one here is toppings. stay with me here, stick with me and I’m going to take you through what you could be doing with your content from one single piece of content. So when you have your tortilla chip, your single piece of content, then you add lots and lots of things on top to make it even more appealing and so you could do that kind of thing with your social media. I know, stick with me, stick with me. Don’t go anywhere. Basically what I’m saying is once you’ve made one piece of content, make that piece of content work harder for your by layering it with lots of other pieces of content made from that one piece of content.

One of the things that most people struggle with coming to social media and how to create content for each of the different channels is time to make that content. So if you can make one piece of content work harder for you, then you’re onto a bit of a winner. This is why I came up with how to 9 x your social media in the first place because so many people were struggling to make content. So how about making it easier for them, giving them an opportunity to do something that they all can do and then creating content from that. So whether you’re a writer, you could blog whether you are photography, you could take pictures, whether you are somebody who feels to have a good voice, you could do a podcast or whether you feel your ground camera, you could do a video, but all those things can be the base pedal, the base point for making more content from them. So if you make an any of those things, then you could think about actually what could you do with that content that you could make other stuff from. So if you do a blog, if you’re brilliant at writing, then you could use apps like lumen5 who will artificially, intelligently look at the content from the blog and make a video from it with

Royalty-free photos or relative free videos. Or you could use other apps. I did the same kind of thing. Or you could maybe if you have the photography, you’ve got your photos, you could take your photos and make a video out of those giving hints or tips away of how you got those particular photos and maybe got the lighting correct and all that kind of stuff. And if you do have a great voice, do you do a podcast?

You could turn that podcast into a video and then that video into short form content and then you could actually get it transcribed intended to blog. This is something I did recently, rather than actually writing blogs, I’ve been game the podcasts or the videos that I do on a daily basis actually transcribed by rev.com and they have a brand new service where they do a rough edit So it’s not perfect for 50 cents for about five minutes worth of audio, which is brilliant. It’s like 10 cents a minute, which is just great

So then you’ve got a blog as well,so there are lots of different things you can do, but what you’re basically saying is layer upon layer upon layer upon last.So if you’re good at making one a particular thing that you use, have a particular thing and create other content with it, there is no point in just doing one thing and just posting it one place. Absolutely. Put your effort into one particular social media channel where your audience says book, don’t forget the other social media channels.

So 80 90% of your effort into that one particular channel that your audience says, but don’t forget, 10% is still leftover for you to still talk to your audience, other channels, other potential channels because there’s a chance somebody else might see it on Twitter If your channels linked in or on Facebook or on Instagram or Snapchat or on TikTok Or on YouTube. So think about your content and what you could do to actually repurpose your content, make it work harder for you so that you have more content to work with every single day. Well, every single day. Hopefully, you got some value from this.

It’s a little bit in and though it’s a little bit of a confusing one, but basically just make your content work harder for you. Just actually start doing more with it than just if it is a photograph just posting it in one place. If it is a podcast just sticking out as a podcast, people want to consume content in other ways. They don’t want the friction of having to go to a channel that they wouldn’t normally use, so you’re best off speaking to them where they potentially are going to be. Okay. Thanks ever so much for listening.
As always, if you’re brand new, please do leave, maybe a rating or a comment or something along those lines.

Perception studios production.

Sticky Bun Day

(The following is a rough transcript of the below video)

Now then how the devil are you? Well, excellent. Me too. Thank you very much for asking. Thank you very much for joining me on national sticky bond day. Who would not want to celebrate that day. Yeah, exactly. And an as always, I want to try and tie this back into your content, your brand, your business, use social media. And uh, I thought I would tie this one into LinkedIn because something I’ve been getting a lot of lately is people sending me requests to connect and either in their request, they’re sending to me, or the minute that I press accept on the request to connect, they’re sending me a sales message on the DMS. What are you thinking?

Random Acts Of Kindness

(The following is a transcript of the below video)

Now. Then how the devil I you. Well, excellent. Me too. Thank you very much for asking. Welcome to another national day. Today if you didn’t already know is national kindness day, do a random act of kindness for a stranger and a yay, you’re helping them out. So lots of people doing lots of different things. In fact today I’ve been to Starbucks and paid for the next person, Starbucks without them knowing, so then they get a free coffee. That was my, or one of my random acts of kindness today. So I want to ask you a question on social media. What do you do as a random act of kindness every single day? I try to give them value for free and this is something that kind of you should be looking to do as well, no matter what business is you are in. I spoke about this the other day as well as so many people get caught up in social media and needing a return on investment, but they forget about the fact that social media is about being social and about giving something back to the community that is out there or potentially even the community that you’ve already built.

Do A Grouch A Favour

(The following is a transcript of the below video)

Now. Then how the devil are you. Well, excellent. Me too. Thank you very much for asking. So then it’s a quick video today. It’d been a Sunday and I want some time with my family. However, as today is do a grouch a favour day. I felt this was an ideal opportunity to discuss. One thing with you that I know is quite high on most people’s list and that is why they don’t press publish on quite a lot of their content. They don’t actually even start doing the content in the first place. It’s because we’re afraid of what other people might say. We’re afraid of trolls. Everyone’s favourite thing because you get these idiots keyboard warriors who go, you’re rubbish and they type it all out and they post it on your content and then you feel bad about it. Now the fact of the matter is I’m in a fortunate position doing what I’ve done over the years working in TV, working in radio.

Single Person Awareness Day

(The following is a transcript from the video below)

Now. Then how the devil are you? Excellent. Me too. Thank you very much for asking. I’m in the car with the loved one in the background, so excuse any, abrupt noises all of a sudden from background. Uh, so today, if you didn’t already know yesterday was Valentine’s day to day is single person awareness day, which means if he’s single you can go home and love yourself and that sounds very wrong.

But you can go home and make yourself a meal or you can not just watch a good film or you can get the popcorn out or have some chocolate or you can do all of the above and much, much more if you really want to. But the moment, most important thing is, is that you’re loving the fact that your team is single, single person awareness day. And that kind of got me thinking about all the solo printers that are out there right now as well.

Safer Internet Day

(The following is a transcript from the below video)

Now then, how the devil are you?

Well, excellent, me too thank you very much for asking. Welcome to another video.

Today’s video all about what today’s national day is, which is a safer internet day. There’s a lot of stuff today in the news about off com in the UK. Hopefully gonna regulate or try to regulate things like the internet, make it safer for people to use, uh, go head-on with people who are like trolling, bullying causing harassment, racial prejudice, all that kind of stuff. Hey, something, I’m completely for 100% making the internet safer place for kids to use is like tantamount really for everybody because obviously what kind of world are they going to grow up and they’re not going to grow up in a world where technology didn’t exist like it didn’t for us. They’re going to grow up in a world where things like what I’m filming on right now, my iPhone 11, I can not be obsolete and there’s going to be something so much more powerful, so much better available for them to use on the platforms they’ll be using on that piece of care.

RELATIONSHIPS

PINCH PUNCH, FIRST OF THE MONTH

Welcome to February 1st, 2019.  As we all know, February is the month of love, Valentines day is just 14 days away, and it got me thinking about RELATIONSHIPS on social media.

So many people I speak to in businesses or building their own personal brand spend their time thinking things are going to happen quickly with their social media channels.

The age of putting out a single tweet and getting loads of work from that tweet are sadly long gone, most social media channels are hugely cannibalised by people giving little to know value, mostly selling and all shouting at the same volume. So the question is, how do you make sure your message is heard, but most importantly, digested as well.

Social media channels are hugely saturated, and messages on each platform are lasting shorter and shorter amounts of time in peoples feeds :

BLOG – 2 YEARS

PINTEREST – 4 MONTHS

YOUTUBE – 20 DAYS

LINKEDIN – 24 HOURS

INSTAGRAM – 8 HOURS

FACEBOOK – 2 HOURS

TWITTER – 5 MINUTES

Obviously, as a one person business, or small team business it’s not going to be easy to keep up with these timings and making content often enough to stay in peoples feeds, but, if you can start to make this process easier for yourselves then that’s a great way of helping to build those relationships

So, over the month of February, I’ll be giving tips on relationships and how you can build strong raving fans of your content rather than people who see it but don’t consume it as you get lost in the throng.

In the meantime, if you want to ask me any questions drop me an email on [email protected]  or you can book in for a 1-2-1 with me on the following link to discuss through one of your social channels and getting the best from it for you.

ADVENT TIP 10 – POSTIT NOTES ARE YOUR FRIEND

STICKY NOTES ARE AWESOME

One of the major problems for a lot of people when they go live using a phone, tablet or even a webcam is where to look. As I said yesterday, connecting with the audience by speaking into the lens is imperative, however it’s not always that easy. (more…)
