ADVENT TIP 15 – HOW IMPORTANT IS SEO ON MY VIDEO?

HOW IMPORTANT IS SEO ON A VIDEO?

You’ve uploaded your live video to multiple channels, so, thew question is, how important is getting your description and tagging right? Well, it’s massively important, without this being done right, your content is likely to blend into everything else everyone is putting out.

However, have a bespoke thumbnail with your video title on it, along with an eye catching video title in the first place you’re already onto a winner. Then you need to start thinking about video SEO, this is as important with video content as it is with any other piece of content you’re brand and business is putting out.

So, here are a few simple tips to help you out

1. EYE CATCHING TITLE

2. MAKE SURE YOUR TITLE IS ALSO IN THE FIRST 3 LINES OF YOUR VIDEO DESCRIPTION, THESE ARE THE 3 LINES THAT ARE SEEN WHEN SOMEONE SEES YOUR VIDEO IN SEARCH RESULTS ON YOUTUBE

3. DON’T JUST USE THE TOP 3 LINES BECAUSE THAT’S ALL PEOPLE SEE. MAKE SURE YOU REALLY GIVE A GREAT DESCRIPTION OF YOUR VIDEOS CONTENT, THIS WILL HELP IN THE META TAGS

4. YOU WANT GOOGLE TO RECOGNISE THIS CONTENT IS CONNECTED TO YOUR WEBSITE, SO MAKE SURE YOU PUT LINKS IN THE DESCRIPTION TO ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS AND YOUR WEBSITE.

5. YOU MUST USE HTTP:// AT THE START OF YOUR EXTERNAL LINKS, OTHERWISE YOUTUBE WILL NOT MAKE THEM CLICKABLE FOR YOUR AUDIENCE

6. USE THE METATAGS, AND MAKE SURE YOU’RE USING THINGS LIKE YOUR VIDEO TITLE AND CONTENT FROM YOUR DESCRIPTION AS TAGS, THIS HELPS MAKE SURE YOUTUBE SEES THE CONTENT ALL WORKS TOGETHER AND PUSHES IT UP PEOPLES SEARCHES

These are just a few simple rules to follow, there’s much more to really help your content work better, but you can always drop me a line to chat about those.

ADVENT TIP 8 – TALKING TO, NOT AT YOUR AUDIENCE

TALKING TO, NOT AT YOUR AUDIENCE

So, you’re prepared for you live video. You have it all planned out, you’ve got your 3 or 4 great resonating moments / bullet points to help you talk about your blog subject as a true voice of authority. However, how do you talk to, not at your audience?

This is something I struggled with as a radio presenter. My first snoop (listen back to a show with the boss) went something like this. “Simon, how’re you going to connect with the listener. Right now you’re talking at them, they won’t want to be your mate or go for a pint with you, you need to create an emotional connection”. So off I went with those words ringing in my ears, how the hell was I going to make a connection with the audience when they’re not there for me to bounce off, to respond to what I’m saying or more importantly, for me to talk to. That’s when it struck me, what I needed was something to replace them in the studio, something that meant I was able to connect and talk to them without them all being in the studio with me.
I placed a small stuffed toy on the window sill just behind the mic and started talking to him, it felt instantly different, having that thing to talk to made all the difference. Obviously he didn’t talk back to me or laugh at my jokes (it’d be really fucking scary if he did) but, it made all the difference to my style of communication to an invisible audience. This is how you need to approach your live video content, place a soft toy behind the lens, a photo of a best friend, your partner, a loved one, just someone or something you can talk to, rather than worrying about the audience behind the lens or the picture of you on the screen.
Make sure it’s behind the lens and nowhere else, and you’ll absolutely fly and feel the difference instantly yourself too.

MY AUDIENCE ISN’T ON SOCIAL MEDIA

BUT, MY AUDIENCE ISN’T ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The words I hear so often when it comes to creating content for going online.  I often speak about using all social media platforms for content to remove the friction for your potential audience and most recently spoke at a networking event and was approached by a few businesses afterwards who insisted their customers are not using social media, so I thought this blog was due to go through each of the most popular social media channels and the audiences they have.

I WANT YOU TO MAKE ME A VIRAL VIDEO

When I speak to brands and businesses about a video, viral is usually one of the main things people want from a piece of content.  In fact, the term seems to have exploded in the last 12 months or so.

The honest answer to anyone is, there is no magic formula for making a piece of content go viral.  You could make the most polished piece of content and it is seen by nobody, and then film yourself on your phone talking while you walk and it goes crazy on views.
